Reasons Why Teen Parenting Is A Constant Struggle

"Raising a teenager is something many people would say is very difficult. What occurs when you have troublesome behavior from your teenager? How should you talk to your kids? How can we get better at understanding what our teenager is dealing with inside, so as to better help them?

You will view life from a different point of view when you raise a teenager. Since you were once a teenager, there are usually things that you remember from raising your own.

There are an endless variety of issues a teen could be going through. Teenagers will probably feel peer pressured at one point as well as depression, distrust and anger. It might be your teen is argumentative, or incredibly stubborn. Perhaps there are self-esteem issues, or your teen is making decisions on whether or not to go to college. When you have so many things to deal with in your teenager, how do you tackle them all?

As a parent of two teenage girls, I can tell you that my biggest struggle has been knowing how to deal with certain situations. Not so much because I'm not sure how they should handle it - but rather because I'm not sure ...
... how I myself would handle it!

I felt very helpless knowing that I did not have all the answers for my children. There are some things that I learned from a human potential expert, like Ms. Salzman, to help in these types of situations. Her name is Nancy Salzman, and it seems she has two girls, as well. The organization, Executive Success Programs is Nancy's own organization in where she explains how parents should concentrate more on parenting themselves than their children at this age. The phrase she uses to describe this method is, "reparenting." Wow, did that hit the spot.

Even though my children hadn't hit teenage years, I still paid attention to what she had to say. Although this year, things changed. This is where I began to use the things I learned like researching and finding different things to try with my girls.

I think her ideology, that we need guidance just like our teenagers, is something I can use so I am planning on attending her classes in the near future. How are teenagers going to get guidance from parents who don't even know what they're doing? It is a tough call to make when, as parents, we find ourselves feeling conflicted over how to address situations, people, and challenges. As long as we initiate a process of understanding each another, our children can be raised to be as wonderful as we imagined they would be."
