What can be more important than food packaging? After all, we all crave for fresh food. Hence, food packaging is must and ought to be done the best way possible. The eatables are supposed to be kept away from the contaminants, present in the environment. And for that, quality food packaging in a printed flexible packaging material is required. Some packaging types are so perfect that it effortlessly increases the shelf life of the packed food item. Also, food packing should be just right so that it can keep the packed item safe while the products are transported to the retailers from the manufacturers. The printed flexible packaging material in which the product is packed must be informative. It should highlight the product’s description, expiry date, instruction, recycling instructions etc. Moreover, there are certain legal standards, which these packaging materials must meet.

Paper is the most common packaging material, however, even in this; corrugated cardboard is preferred by the product manufacturers. Reason being, it is the best for transport packaging. On the contrary, its eco-friendliness is unmatchable. This material is biodegradable and ready for the recycle process. Paper has got innumerable advantages and, all the credit for this goes to its recycling rate, which is 50% in total.
Apart from the paper, glass is another common substance, used for packaging. However, to reduce the costing, glass is usually replaced by the plastic. Reason being- plastic is more durable as compared to glass containers. Also, plastic is lightweight and enjoy more life than glass packaging materials. However, the best substance for recycling is “Glass.”
In the league of best food packaging materials, the other one is a metal “Aluminum.” Cans, foil, laminates are all made up of aluminum. Its properties are great. Easy to recycle and its lightweight is good for handling. However, the best part is, no extra cost is incurred in its recycling.
Steel is also one of the best packaging materials available. Predominately, it’s utilized for food packaging (aerosols, beverages and even food). Its durability and great potential for undergoing a comprehensive recycle process makes it manufacturers’ favorite.
In the recent past, we’ve witnessed plastic overpowering all the other packaging materials effortlessly. It has beautifully replaced glass, and now it’s even scoring points above aluminum and steel. And mainly in the food packaging industry, the demand of plastic is rising with each passing day.
Today, the food packaging industry is worth $100 billion and enjoying 10-15% growth annually. That is why only recyclable food packaging materials have been taken into consideration.
