"If you're a huge fan of martial arts and all of the hit karate movies that have come out over the years, you're probably familiar with the different karate weapons that martial artists use. Many weapons have become so common in movies and television programs that just about anybody could tell you what they are, and there are others that some of the biggest fans wouldn't recognize.

Of course, the single weapon that few should have a problem recognizing is the notorious ninja sword, also known as the Japanese katana. Katana were the most common used weapon in ancient Japan, as it was the main weapon used by the Samurai troops who fought on the battlefields and a primary weapon for the ninja assassins who fought from the shadows. They have curved single-edged blades and handles that are long enough for a two-handed grip and heavy enough to provide a superb balance for the steel blade.

The Bo staff is another very popular weapon used in martial arts, and though it wouldn't have been very much use for a Samurai on a battlefield, in the hands of a proficient master it could be a brutal and deadly piece of equipment. ...
... Bo staffs are really long and solid sticks of wood that are generally cut to lengths of about six to eight feet. different variations of the staff, but they are mostly long shafts of wood, much like a broomstick.|Most staffs are simply lengthy poles of really hard wood, but there are a handful of different types available.} They are held by their middle sections so that there is a perfect balance of weight on both sides of the user's hands, allowing the user to pivot the weapon effortlessly to fling one end or the other in whatever direction necessary.

It is not uncommon for karate movie lovers to go out and buy a replica of their favorite weapons, and many will start out by grabbing a pair of nun chucks. The speed and agility you get from this crazy little weapon is simply unbelievable, but the lack of range and the fact that they can be a challenge to train with make them a little less than ideal. This weapon is made up of a couple of short shafts of wood or similar material that are tethered together with a short length of metal chain or really thick, strong rope.

Even if you are a huge fan of kung fu, you still may never have seen anything quite like a three-section staff or a Tonfa. These sorts of weapons are generally very rare, but that doesn't change that they are some of the most remarkable out there and as brutal as their counterparts. "
