Recent studies are providing more evidence that CPAP machines are the most effective treatment for sleep apnea. A recent study conducted in a Swiss medical facility points to the fact that consistent use of a CPAP machine can help people control their sleep disorder and live a full, healthy life.

This particular study included a number of people who had previously been diagnosed with sleep apnea. In addition, these people were using CPAP machines to treat their problem. Participants in the study were told to discontinue the use of their machines for the next 14 days. The findings proved alarming.

In a matter of days, the participants noticed that their sleep apnea problems had returned and stated that they felt extremely sleepy. In addition, their average blood pressure and heart rate readings had all increased significantly. These issues contributed directly to a noticeable problem with the functioning of their vascular system.

One doctor noted that sleep apnea began to re-appear in the majority of patients on the first evening they stopped using the CPAP ...

Prior to this study, there was no definitive work done to evaluate the effect of discontinuing the use of a CPAP machine. A few trials had been conducted, but in uncontrolled environments which restricted the ability to come to a proper conclusion.

Considering the fact that multiple studies have been released recently explaining the detrimental effects of sleep apnea, this new study serves as more proof that sleep apnea must be controlled with continued use of a CPAP machine. In fact, most sleep experts point to the CPAP as the most effective treatment currently available, even over surgery and other alternatives.

Moreover, over the past two years, studies have shown a link between impaired cognitive abilities in older adults who suffer from sleep apnea and failed to use proper treatment. Heart disease and strokes are also now being linked to sleep apnea patients. And new evidence is indicating that untreated sleep apnea can cause people to add additional weight and develop stage 2 diabetes.

Although it would seem that getting a good night’s sleep would solve all of these problems, it is not even possible for the majority of sleep apnea sufferers. Generally, people unfamiliar with sleep apnea do not realize that the afflicted person has little control over what is occurring during the night. But for those afflicted, lack of restful sleep causes a severe deterioration in the quality of life. In fact, some severely afflicted people are at risk of death as the pressure on the windpipe limits the amount of air released into the lungs.

Suffice it to say, for people who are currently using CPAP machines to treat their condition, the best course of action is to either alter your lifestyle or become CPAP compliant by using it every night.
