Each year more and more innovative products become available to the law enforcement community. In addition, improvements in Law Enforcement Equipment and police product standards also become more frequent. At the same time, federal, state and municipal budgets are shrinking causing many cities and agencies to fall behind the curve with outfitting their officers with the latest products that offer more protection, greater effectiveness, lighter weight materials, more comfort and so on. All departments must become more efficient in regards to their purchases and do their best to find the most cost effective solutions to prepare it's officers with the best available products in the field.

Most cities and towns have long standing relationships with local uniform supply stores and police equipment companies that of course need to make a profit, but because of this the possibility of cost savings are far harder to achieve. Even when a city or town put it's purchases out to bid, many RFQ's and bid packages are drawn up in such a way that limit the amount ...
... of competitive offers that it can receive due to several factors such as exact match requirements, location requirements, and other clauses which make it too stringent to get the best available option. If cities and towns budgets continue to shrink, there will be a shift towards obtaining bids that will have to consider a wider range of acceptable options from larger pool of qualified bidders and suppliers. What makes a supplier of law enforcement equipment qualified and credible? Simple, a vendor must be able to provide proven products already tested in the field and have a good track record or a list of qualified references.

Each of the many categories of equipment which include holsters, batons, tactical apparel, boots & shoes, protective gloves, handcuffs & restraints, body armor, knives, duty gear, pepper spray, range bags, optics and many more are in a constant evolving and developing innovation stage and it will become increasingly difficult for department to keep up with the best products so choosing suppliers they can trust and also expect the lowest pricing is absolutely crucial. Some of the most innovative companies that are constantly coming up with innovations on it's product offerings include GH Armor, Armor Express, Force One Armor, Benchmade Knives, Under Armour, Blackhawk, Maxpedition, Smith & Wesson, INTAPOL, and many more. It can take the suppliers of these police products years to have accurate knowledge of all the latest available products themselves in addition to also receiving feedback from officers in the field on what adjustments or improvements could be useful. Luckily there are still are a handful of law enforcement equipment providers that have this knowledge and can confidently meet the needs of public safety with the best police gear. Police Equipment Depot, which represents several of the top police brands is on such company that stands ready to ship within 24 to 48 hours on most of its product offerings at the most competitive prices in the industry. In addition, they also carry some of the most popular body armor models with some being delivered within 3 to 5 working days at the most cost effective pricing.

In summary, the overall trends point to departments ultimately having to do more research and lean toward allowing the best viable options instead of just exact matches. Based on the recent economic pressure in our federal, state and local government, only time will tell if there will be enough tax dollars to fund cities and towns with it's purchases. Rather than waiting to see what will happen, it looks like we will see all levels of government follow what the business community has been forced to do by becoming as diligent as possible about each and every purchase they make. This is a difficult task especially when these purchases affect an officers performance and provides their safety in the field.
