Business Cards That Say Something About Our Environment
The green revolution really has changed all our lives over the last few years. Recycling at home has changed our lives with the two-bin system. We are forever being told to reduce our carbon footprint, and many of us care more about our environment than ever before. Many would argue that in this day and age of digital technology that the business card would be no longer required; afterall our smart phones have the facility to transmit business cards. But is that really the case, and is it enough to send a digital business card?
Your company needs some business cards for its sales team, and you want to make a simple statement about the environment. You think it’s the right time for your company to make such a statement on its business cards and other print material. You are prepared to pay a lot more for recycled paper, and you’ve been told that the print quality will be slightly inferior. But this does not worry you because you want to make the right statement. Both your assumptions are totally wrong.
Recycled papers and boards are no more expensive than conventional ...
... paper prices because of the increase in demand. The papermaking process has been considerably refined over the last few years, resulting in less energy and water being used to manufacture these papers. Improvements in the quality of recycled papers means that quality and performance is equal to that of conventional, or “virgin” papers.
So you want to make that “green” statement. Here are a few facts about going recycled. Using recycled paper will reduce landfill because it diverts waste paper from entering landfill sites. By continuing the demand for recycled paper, because recycling is only viable if there is a continuing market for it. There is less stress put on our forests because virgin pulp is not required in the manufacturing process. The pulp and paper industries are the fifth largest consumers of energy in the world, and by producing recycled paper 70% less energy and much less water is used compared with manufacturing virgin paper.
There are a plethora of recycled papers on the market, and your printer should be able to guide you through the maze as well as supply you some samples of different papers. In general, there are papers ranging from 10% recycled to ones that are 100% recycled.
Recycled paper is a paper that has been verified as being made from post consumer waste. The FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) introduced their brand mark as recognition of the value of recycled products in relieving pressure on the world’s forests.
