• Orthodontist is a dentist who is responsible for straightening the teeth with improper growth. Orthodontist is a Greek word. Wrong alignment of teeth is possible due to improper alignment in the upper or lower jaw or can occur if biting of food is not proper. This wrong alignment of teeth can be effectively treated by the orthodontists. Metal wires are introduced into braces or brackets for treating the wrongly aligned teeth.

• Treatment is given to the patient only after initial consultation where he discusses with patient regarding the problem and treatment plan.

• After initial examination, he will generate appropriate treatment plan which includes spacers, braces, surgery and dental headgear.
• After explaining the treatment procedure then work starts by adding dental brackets, fixing retainers, installing braces, etc. If surgery is the part of treatment then patient must consult maxilla facial or oral surgeon.
• General health of the orthodontist is also examined to ensure insertion of dental appliances will not have negative impact.
• After successful completion of the treatment, all the inserted equipment is removed carefully.
Responsibilities of an orthodontist
• Orthodontist carefully set the equipment in the patient’s mouth and fixes the equipment in the appropriate position.
• Any complication related to teeth and jaws are diagnosed effectively by an orthodontist.
• Supervising the activities performed by the staff at the time of orthodontic treatments.
• Appropriate guidance is given to the patient on health care needs.
• Previous patient medical records are thoroughly examined and then perfect treatment plan is developed.
• The designs of the existing dental appliances are improved by the orthodontist.

• The median salary paid to an orthodontist is about $80 per hour. The orthodontists who are not so specialized can also earn up to $49.11 per hour. The salary paid to specialized orthodontists will be about $100 per hour.
• The average salary paid is about $166400 annually where as lower ones are paid about $102,150 and upper ones is paid $300000 annually.
• The orthodontist doing a private job can earn up to $420000 annually.
