How To Prevent Heat Stroke In Summer
Everybody knows that extreme heat can make us sick. People are dying from heat….there are thousands and thousands of people each day fighting against heat stroke. Anyone exhibiting the signs and symptoms of Heat Stroke should be rushed to the nearest hospital or clinic. The only way to address heat-related illness before it happens is to adopt a series of simple but critical precautions for exercising in hot weather. Infants, the elderly, athletes, and outdoor workers are the groups at greatest risk for heat stroke.
How do you know whether you have caught a heat stroke? When heat stroke attacks you, your body's temperature rises rapidly, the sweating mechanism fails, and the body is unable to cool down. You will feel sick and faint. Your skin may become pale and clammy and your pulse rate slow.
Now knowing the facts of heat stroke, what measures shall we take to avoid it? Here are some tips. Limit the time you spend outdoors to the early morning and evening hours. Avoid the sun as much as possible. Or be well protected against sunburn. While outdoors, rest frequently in a shady area so that your body's thermostat ...
... has a chance to recover. If you're running, back off to a jog. If you're jogging, slow down to a walk. If you're gardening, get out of the sun and get into the shade.
Bump up your fluid intake. Prevent heat stroke by drinking even when you are not thirsty. Replenish lost salt. And when staying outdoors, remember to cover your head. If at any time you feel the least bit woozy, quit your activity and call it a day.
Wear loose-fitting cotton clothes. Pay attention to weather reports and try to plan ahead for hot days. Unlike dark colored clothing, light colored clothing deflects temperature raising rays. Individuals should not schedule tough workouts until they have become accustomed to the conditions.
Be proactive when temperatures rise. Bring a CamelBak [water carrier]. Go to a fitness center where it's air-conditioned Keep cars locked when not in use and never, ever, leave infants or children unattended in a locked car. Utilize the American Heart Association website for recommendations to prevent heat stroke and live healthier during the summer.
It’s knows fact that caffeinated and alcohol beverages dehydrate your body and in high temperatures your body will get dehydrated even faster. Also pay attention to the medications you take, antihistamines and high blood pressure medications experience heat stroke from exerting yourself too much.
