In 2001 we met with the Managing Director of a long established Sub-Contract machining Company. The company provides parts to the automotive industry, they CNC machine the parts inhouse.

Their server had a RAID card problems, this would cause the server to crash weekly. The workshop is a 24/7 operation and everytime the server crashed the work would stop, obviously the wages still had to be paid which costs the business too much, money they hadn’t made back.

We backed up the server using our bare metal recovery software, this enables us to restore to any other server hardware, and so while we were fixing ...

We found over 15,000 viruses on the network, the company had antivirus in place, but it wasn’t configured correctly.

They have a small computer network, consisting of three servers and 14 pc’s split across two buildings with a fibre link. It has always been their policy to “outsource” theirIT Maintenance, because having inhouse IT employees would cost too much. Technology moves at such a speed that theywould not be able to keep up, they have enough issues in trying to control things they know something about.
