Most travel brochures that you will encounter are tri-fold ones. When opened, you will see that they are made of paper the size of a short bond paper and just folded into three parts. But do you know that you can also use the size of two sheets of bond paper in your brochure printing and still make it appear like a standard size brochure?

Load of Information

You feel that you need to give visitors of your city or province with more detailed information about your place. But it seems that the regular tri-fold pamphlet is just too limiting. After all, you only have six sides to fill up. You can actually have a bigger size brochure without sacrificing the size of the finished product. You can double the size of the paper. When you open the brochure, the size will be 17” x 11” instead of just 8.5” x 11” or the size of a regular short sized bond paper. When it is folded to come up with the size of a regular tri-fold brochure, this means that you will have 12 panels to fill up.

Tricky Layout

Since there are so many flaps to fill up, you will need a specialized format for your computer ...
... layout. But it is quite a tricky thing to do especially in assigning panels so each part will be in their proper place when folded. The most convenient way to do this without confusing yourself is to make a mock up first. Tape two pieces of short bond paper together to simulate the actual size of your brochure. Then fold it up to determine which panel goes where. Then assign a number to each panel. While there, take note of the elements that you want to include using a pencil so that you can erase it if you want things interchanged. For example,
Panel 1 – Cover

Panel 2 – Message of the Mayor

Panel 3 – Short introduction about the city or brief history of the city

Panel 4 to 6 – Special events in the city

Panel 7 – Tourist destinations

Panel 8 – Summary of accommodations

Panel 9 – Summary of restaurants

Panel 10 – Some relaxation spots

Panel 11 – Travel instructions or how to get there

Panel 12 – Back cover with a slogan and contact details of the Department of Tourism, Hospitals, Emergency Hotline, and other pertinent information

This is just an example and it is really up to you to come up with your own. You may also want to add a vicinity map of the downtown area. Have an artist render an easy to read map that will not necessarily reflect all the contours of the streets but will give readers a bird’s eye view of the positioning of key places. You may also want to include the shopping centers where your guests can shop for native products as their take-home gifts.

As with any other brochure, follow the guidelines in making your material readable and interesting for your guests. Make it informative but easy read so that they will easily understand what you are talking about. Most of them do not really have the time to read lengthily so the bolder messages are usually the ones that they can retain the most.

This kind of brochure printing is applicable for those agencies that produce such materials for cities, provinces, or states. You get to put in more information in your brochures without having to sacrifice the convenient size of the usual brochure.
