Crysis 2 is an interesting science-fiction first person shooter that is developed by Crytek while its publishing is done by Electronic Arts. It is the sequel to the original Crysis and Crysis Warhead, the game takes place in 2023, three years after the original one . This game is based in a destroyed New York City which has been evacuated due to an alien invasion. As the player you take the role of a Force Recon Marine called “Alcatraz,” who is the successor of Jake “Nomad” Dunn from the first game. As Alcatraz you take ownership of the Nanosuit given to you from Army Delta Force Officer Laurence “Prophet” Barnes, who happens to return from the original game.

The gameplay is amazing and lives up to the gameplay that of the original game and they have managed to depict a ruined city without overcrowding the game with cinematics, although you do get your fair share. I like the way that the gameplay is more strategic that your average first person shooter, it is not just point and shoot. The reason I say it is strategic is because of the fact the Nanosuit gives you many different options from a stealth mode to ...
... a brute armour mode, meaning you go in silently or you can just muscle your way through the enemies.

Unfortunately the artificial intelligence of the enemies is in some ways pretty dumb and makes the gameplay a little less fun but don’t let this put you off just put the difficulty settings up a little higher. Another small problem is the heads up display as this is a little crowded, making it a little hard to see enemies to the left or right of you. This isn’t generally a problem if you are playing on quite a big screen.

The multiplayer gameplay is pretty fun, but nothing special compared to any other multiplayer first person shooter. Like any other first person shooter Crysis allows you to gain experience and levels unlocking better weapons and upgrades. The multiplayer keeps you engaged with a range of different game modes from Instant Action, basically a deathmatch and a king of the hill mode called Crash Site.

I wouldn’t say Crysis 2 leaves such a mark on me as Crysis did but there is not much in it, the multiplayer is just as fun and the campaign is as thrilling as ever. The only bad thing I can say about the main campaign is the size of the areas you fight in, as if you have played the original Crysis then you will know that the maps are a lot larger and have more of a sandbox feel to them.

If you already have a copy of the original Crysis then I would definitely recommend that you buy Crysis 2 as it fills in the gaps of the first game. If you haven’t played Crysis than I still recommend you get this game as even though you may not know the characters there is not really much you need to know to become immersed, but you can always pick up a copy of Crysis or do a bit of research online.
