The bedroom is arguably the most important room in your house. It's where you sleep and recover from the rigours of the day. It's where you rest when you are sick. And it's where…. Oh well, you get the picture! So if you are like most people, when you start to buy furniture for your home, you probably start with the bedroom and the bed. After all, you spend anywhere between six and eight hours every day in it (and if you don't, then you should, considering that restful sleep is very important for the body and mind to function smoothly). Beds apart, the term "bedroom furniture" usually includes dressing tables and wardrobes as well. In fact, mirrors too may be included, especially mirrors with those ornate frames.

Your physical environment plays an important role in your sense of well-being, your mood and consequently, even your productivity. So unless the ambience in your bedroom helps you sleep well, you may not wake up feeling fresh and ready to face another day. Therefore, you must keep your bedroom clutter-free so that the adverse impact of negative energy is minimised. In turn, this means that you need ...
... to select your bedroom furniture with care, so that you do not sacrifice functionality.

As with other types of furniture, with bedroom furniture too, you have a wide choice of materials, finishes/colours, designs and styles. Add sizes to the mix and you get a mind-boggling array of combinations and price points. Storage space for bed linen and extra pillows inside the bedroom is especially important. Depending on overall space in the room, you may have to choose between storage under the bed and separate storage units that can be placed in the bedroom.

The functionality angle must be viewed in the context of whose bedroom you are selecting bedroom furniture for. If it's a child’s bedroom, then you may need additional storage units, cupboards, bookshelves and so on. Also certain types of material and designs may be ruled out simply because of safety considerations. Children will be children and you can't stop them from rolling around or reaching out at whatever looks attractive (presumably, it's these same genes that go on to shape adult behaviour when men see a new gadget or women see a new range of cosmetics guaranteed to make them look younger). To minimize the risk of injury, it is advisable to choose designs that have no sharp edges or metal parts sticking out.

Another big choice you need to make is between DIY (do it yourself) kind of furniture that you can yourself assemble at home or bedroom furniture that needs to be assembled by professionals. Your budget (or availability of time) might help you make the decision. Unless of course, your decision is forced by your (or your partner's) skills at DIY.

But hey, it's your home that you are doing up. And as some wise ancestor of ours has said, "no pain no gain". So now that you are suitably rested and relaxed, get cracking on finding the right bedroom furniture for your house.
