Irresponsible driving is not appreciated anywhere and by anyone and this applies to mobility vehicle users too. Mobility aid users have no exception with regard to rules and cases of injuries and fatalities due to irresponsible driving of mobility scooters have led to the decision of standardization.

Mobility scooters are the most popular items used by elderly and disabled people, in the UK. We see numerous people using this while crossing the streets, while shopping, strolling the park and malls etc. Despite of these mobility scooters running only at an average of 4mph there are increasing accidents related to these products which comes as a shock to everyone who think that how can anyone be injured by them, in spite of having this minimal speed in the engine. Nevertheless, one should be more careful on the road as well as on the pavements and take extra effort to not create hassles to the pedestrians and the other vehicle on road and to the people crossing roads.

It’s not proved that mobility scooters can be dangerous to many on road, however, there are some stories all across the UK of old women driving their ...
... Mobility Products straight to the shops and breaking stuff, driving on actual roads without following the rules or even crossing railways. Recent data shows that there were some injuries to the use of these products but most of them are inflicted to the other pedestrians. Children get knocked off while on pavement by older people driving the scooter and others might have gotten some bruises from fast driving. The issue is that these scooters are not included in the road traffic act in the UK so police cannot do anything about the drivers. Stories of fatalities caused by drivers have been noted but the sad part is that there is nothing that could be done even if the driver is truly liable to the incident because of not being included in the road traffic act. Now, there are studies and committees being sent out to address safety implications of the Mobility Products that are being used. Extra precautions are taken into consideration and it is now being studied if drivers or owners of these vehicles should get proper training and license. There are some areas across the UK that is testing these new rules that could help in addressing liability issues.

Though some say that these mobility scooters are easy to use, the fact that there are many failures in testing mean otherwise. The thing is that these products are not similar to the ones that people drive. It normally is easy to use but it is crucial for new owners to have an understanding of the core concepts of driving them. Especially for old people, presence of mind is crucial while driving these products. It ‘s decided that there is a need to find a standard in which all new drivers will have to participate in to ensure that they will not become public menace or dangers. It is a new learning experience for this emerging mode of transportation.
