Air smelling of cardamom and pepper, jade colored backwaters at alleppey, mysterious forests in Wayanad and Periyar, palms neck lacing the sun washed, straw colored sands of Kovalam and Kochi beaches, Onam and Kathakali, celestial temples spread all over, ayurvedic healing resorts, lush green country sides, adventure trips involving rock climbing, rappelling and camping in the western ghats, romantic and misty hill stations of Munnar, coir cottage industry, humid equatorial tropic climate, simple tasty fish with boiled rice, coconut chutney and banana chips, all of them make a run for being the emblems of Kerala.

Kerala is one of the most popular holiday destinations in and outside India. Indians come here to make connections with the gods, or for a romantic getaway in the backwaters. Expats come to Kerala probably awed by the beauty and diversity of Kerala’s rich forests and landscapes and to revive themselves with nerve soothing ayurvedic therapies, and to explore the richness of Kerala’s wildlife and culture.

There are a few different options on what you can do in Kerala.

You can visit Munnar ...
... which you can reach by road (3 hrs from Ernakulam Station, or Kochi Airport) and enjoy its breath taking scenic beauty and sip up freshly brewed tea from Munnar tea museum or from the many Munnar tea estates, also enjoyable are the flower gardens and wildlife of Munnar, you could get lucky spotting a Tahr goat unique to Munnar and Kerala, you can also boat at the many lakes in Munnar and spend a romantic evening watching the sun go down.

Or you can take a cab to the mesmerizing Alleppey or Kumarakom back waters, and settle in the fairytale like house boats and take your own personal cruise in to the lagoons and sea of kerala backwaters. On the house boats you can order delicacies of your own choice or cook a dish of your liking and treat your family, friends and special someone to your culinary skills, and what more you can pick fish fresh out of the waters or take a canoe in to the village and shop for your dinner or whatever fancies you. Or relax on the deck of your house boat and sock up the sun.

The other option is to visit Wayanad and see its pristine Soochipura falls whose water drops look like pearls against the tender sun rays, or explore historic carvings at Edakkal caves and thrill your senses to the spectacular view.
