Of all the very important jobs to be had in the automotive service business, one that should be held in high regards is that of the service advisor. This person's primary role within the company is to act as your customer service representative, communicating openly with the customers and being as informative as possible able the services they are getting. When it comes to offering a service, there are few things more important than being able to relate with your clients.

People have trouble with their cars and trucks every single day and don't have a clue as to what the problem is, but when they come in to have repairs done they will explain the different symptoms they are experiencing. Your advisor must be able to talk about these issues with them and form a conclusion about what the problem might be so they can give the customer a good idea of what the repairs may cost and how long they may take.

It also falls on the advisor to discuss the customer's automotive problems to the technicians who will be repairing that customer's vehicle, so that they will have a good idea of where to begin when troubleshooting ...
... and locating the actual problem. In order to ensure that the customers trust your company and the good job you are doing for them, the advisor should be able to give them all the details of the services they are paying for without using technical terms that they are not familiar with.

Of course, having to talk to customers all the time requires a person to be very open and friendly. When the client comes in they are likely hoping to be greeted with a friendly face and treated with the utmost respect. When a customer is dissatisfied with the services they've received they can become very irritated, and sometimes the only way to make good with such customers is to have an advisor who can calmly address their concerns in a professional manner.

There is a lot more to being a customer services advisor than just having good people skills. The only way that an advisor can do their job is to know as much about automotive maintenance as the mechanics in back, so you should find someone with proper training and a couple years or more with automotive service experience.

If you are determined in building up a successful business in the automotive service industry, you have to treat customer relations seriously and build a trust with everyone you serve and the best way to go about building that type of trust is having a friendly advisor. With a nice service advisor tending to your customers, you should be well on your way to building a strong business for yourself.
