Countering Mold And Mildew Attacks In Your House
Mold and mildew are naturally occurring fungi and they can start breeding anywhere at anytime. The common molds take minimum two days to develop if there is a continuous presence of water or moisture. Places that are occasionally wet or that has frequent sunlight and fresh air supply molds take time to spread. In other words, mold dwells at places where there is moisture and little something to feed on. In a home environment, molds mostly feed on wood and paper. And there are lots of objects in your house that has either of these objects as a key ingredient. Knowing such details can help us in countering mold and such other bacterial and fungal growths.
Nowadays, there is a great demand for house remodeling and renovation services. One of the main deals about such services is that they use materials that are immune to mold and mildew attack while remodeling and replacing the old furniture and interiors. By installing furniture and cabinets made of fiber or plastic can avoid a possible mold attack in spite of high levels of moisture. Similarly, there are special waterproof paints that have the quality of repelling or resisting ...
... moisture and microbial activities.
Mold usually attacks places like bathrooms or spaces below the sink. These are areas that are constantly exposed to moist air. And these locations fall under their prime breeding grounds. Drywalls or walls with paper facing act as a good source of nutrition when combined with wetness. Installing an efficient ventilation system is the initial step in countering mold growth in wet places like bathroom. Modern building codes necessitate installation of vent fans for all bathrooms. This is because windows are not as effective as vent fans at drawing and evacuating moisture or water vapor. And during winters windows are shut tight leaving hardly any option for ventilation. This is the reason why mold and mildew attacks faster during winter times.
Yet another important step for countering mold in your bathroom is to remove all possible food sources that help their growth. Although, drywall is a sturdy building material, it contains lot of plant matter, especially the recycled ones. It certainly supports the concepts of eco-friendly construction but it doesn’t exactly help us in countering mold and mildew. So, switch to a drywall which is mold-resistant. It is the best way to keep out molds to a great extent. However, this still doesn’t make your house entirely mold proof. Mold-resistant drywalls are treated to eliminate the paper content from their base material but still a high level of moisture can render them prone to mold and fungal formations.
