In order to understand the basic workings of invisible pet fence installations, there are several background facts one needs to come to terms with. One of those is the fact that most of the animals we keep as pets are capable of experiencing pain (even mild forms of it). Moreover, just like us humans, most of these animals will tend to avoid something, once they realize that it causes them pain. We also need to be awake to the fact that animals often have to be constrained within given geographical perimeters. Appreciation of those facts lays the foundation within which the basic workings of invisible pet fences can be understood.

The main purpose served by invisible pet fences

Invisible pet fence installations are meant to restrain pets from leaving certain areas. A person who lives next to a busy highway, for instance, may be keen on ensuring that her pet doesn’t leave her house, stray into the highway, and possibly get knocked down by a vehicle.

Similarly, a person with young kids and a fierce dog may not want the dog to leave a certain ‘safe’ perimeter, and intrude into the kids’ space, where ...
... it may end up injuring them (as the kids may not know how to relate with such a dog on account of their general inexperience in life).

There are also people who believe that pets are there to be seen and admired, but they should never intrude into human space. Thus pets which are able to ‘remain in place’ and be admired from there (just like inanimate lawns) without actually moving into the human space are considered ‘well behaved.’ But the question which comes up is as to how the pets can be kept in place: seeing that their natural tendency is to move freely - a question often answered through the invisible pet installations.

In a nutshell, invisible pet fences are meant to restrain animals without using physical barriers, tethers (or leashes).

The main mechanism through which the invisible fences work

Invisible pet fences are electronic. At the general level, these invisible pet fence installations work through a system of sound warnings, and (mild) pain inflictions. The way the system is set up is such that a perimeter within which the pet(s) is to be contained is electronically defined – through GPS co-ordinates, or through an underground cable. Whenever the pet is nearly straying out of those bounds, the trend is noted (electronically, by the invisible pet fence system) and the sound warning goes on. This should, in most cases, make the animal go back into the authorized area. But if fully ignores the sound warning, and strays, the system inflicts a mild shock on the animal (not an inhuman shock, of course), and the pain pushes the animal back into the allowed area. This is pretty much the way pain from a stick would push the pet back, if you were shepherding it manually.

The technical set up of the invisible pet fences

Technically, the perimeter within which the animal is allowed can be defined through GPS coordinates, as noted. That would make for a wireless system. Alternatively, the perimeter can be defined through an underground wire, whose pulses are detected by a collar worn by the pet. Either way, whenever the pet is almost going beyond the authorized area, a sound warning would be made by the system (the same way a good shepherd would make a sound warning to an animal which is almost straying). And, as noted, if the animal actually strays, ignoring the sound warning, a mild shock (equivalent to a loving shepherd’s stick stroke) would be inflicted on the animal, forcing it back to the area it is supposed to remain in.

The reason why us for Fairland IN area pet fencing works is because we offer around the clock support for pet fencing. This includes repairs in all weather conditions.
