How To Install A Hidden Pet Fence

There are two main ways in which a hidden pet fence can be installed. The fence in question is termed as ‘hidden’ in the sense that it is not visible to the casual observer. It is effective in keeping the animal within boundaries. Yet unlike a physical barrier fence, you can’t actually see it. Indeed, to the casual observer, the whole situation tends to come across as one where the pet remains within the designated area because of his or her ‘good behavior.’ That is because the casual observer can’t really see what is keeping the pet within that perimeter, yet it remains there!

The actual mechanism for operation of the hidden fence

In actual fact, the hidden pet fence works through a relatively simple electronic mechanism. In the simplest installations, a cable is laid all round the perimeter of the area in which the pet is supposed to be restrained. A current is passed through this cable, and the cable emits signals of a certain frequency. An electronic tag which can detect those signals being emitted by the underground cable is put on the pet. This tag also has a sound emitting capability, and a (mild) ...
... shock infliction mechanism. The system is programmed in such a way that as long as the pet remains within bounds, nothing of note happens. But if the animal comes near the boundaries marked by the underground cable (indicating that it is almost straying), the tag on it would immediately detect the growing signal strength, which would trigger a sound warning. Should the pet turn a deaf ear to the sound warning, and actually go beyond the boundaries, the shock infliction mechanism is now activated. The mild but rather persistent pain from the shock forces the animal back where it should be.

There is another version which uses GPS coordinates, rather than relying on an underground cable to define ‘authorized’ boundaries within which the pet can be allowed to move freely. But in the final analysis, the arrangement is still one where a warning is sounded whenever the animal shows a tendency to stray, and where a mildly painful and persistent shock is inflicted if the animal actually strays.

Practical installation

There are firms which specialize in installation of these pet fence systems. Your local business directory should have contacts for some of them. You can also check them out online, as majority of them have some sort of online presence.

The first step in the practical installation is what we may term as the border definition phase: where you show the people you contract to install an invisible pet fence the area within which you want your animal(s) contained.

The second step in the installation would be the cable laying (or GPS programming) phase, the objective is to electronically define those boundaries.

The third step in the pet tagging phase, during which an electronic tag is put on the animal. This is the tag which would be detecting whenever the animal starts to stray (or when the pet actually strays, as may be the case).

The fourth step is the pet training phase – where some sort of orientation is carried out, to acquaint the pet with the new system.
All these phases, by the way, can be implemented in the span of two hours.

Lebanon IN area hidden dog fences can feature customized borders. A Fence Service can set up borders around gardens among other areas.
