Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness with an increased level of suggestibility. The mind is disengaged from the external reality, and is focused on a particular subject, situation or activity in a process. Traits, behavioral properties, past memories are mostly stored in the sub-conscious mind. During hypnosis, direct communication is established with the sub-conscious mind, and hence the properties that are stored there are easily modified. There are several cases where the subject of hypnosis was left with severe anxiety and depression for tediously long periods, 10 years or more in many cases, as an after effect of improper hypnosis. Most of these cases arise when the subject goes to an uncertified hypnotisør. Evocations of intense emotions, setting of false memories are some common realities.
