We often hear the word database nowadays. A database is a collection of data records. These records include files, as well as other objects. You can say that it is a modern day file cabinet but it is not just about files. It also contains files that can be used by different applications. The database is connected to as series of computers and even servers, allowing the access of data from different departments of an organization. The data is crucial for many business processes and is secured using different methods. It is crucial for many industries like banking, retail and information technology.
A database management job is ideally about the planning, research, implementation and protection of core database tools for the benefit of the organization. A database management system is a selection of applications that allow organizations to record edit and take information from the database. It could vary depending on the requirements of the organization. There is small scale ones that can be run on personal computers and for bigger organizations that utilize massive amounts of data, it could be installed on a mainframe ...
... or a high powered computer system. Such systems can be connected to automated tellers, library systems and flight reservation services. As you can see, the demand is big since most, if not all organizations and businesses take essential information for their businesses.
A database manager's job will require extensive expertise in creating the right architecture that includes hardware and software components to work effectively with the business goals of the company. There are many considerations that the manager has to address in managing a database. Some of these include the budget needed and sourcing of cost effective systems or tools in building the database. This will include servers or computers, hard disk space, storage area networks, security features and more. Another consideration is the scale of the project and how it will be relevant to the business. It is necessary to project how long will it be implemented and if it will be replaced after a period of time.
The database manager and his team are tasked to create and maintain a database that is not only secured but also efficient. Efficiency is all about how useful the DBMS is. Can the database be accessed quickly without risking security? Is the system compact? This means that the data does not take up too much space. The database management job encompasses numerous aspects of system development as well as research. Nonetheless, it is an important job form many businesses including retailers, financial establishments and other organizations that use data immensely.
