When you think of holidays to Turkey, it's probably fair to say you don't think of skiing.

However, if you're looking for winter sport somewhere just a little bit different and off the beaten track, Turkey holidays could be just for you.

There's already plenty to do in and around the coastal city of Antalya, but if you want to take to the slopes, hiring a car and going up into the mountains will take you to the "hidden city".

Antalya's Ski Resort

Every year, many people from the UK go on holidays to Turkey in the heart of winter to visit the ski resort of Saklikent which translates as "hidden city".

Far above the beautiful beaches and coast below, you'll find some great skiing in the Taurus Mountains. The best way to get up the mountain is to hire a car and because of the time of year, you should be able to get a really good deal in the city of Antalya.

The drive up to the resort itself is a real highlight with scenic twisty roads. Even if you can't wait to get on the slopes, it's worth taking your time on the ascent to really appreciate this beautiful part of Turkey.

The skiing ...
... is most suited to beginners or those with a bit of experience. If you're a seasoned skier with lots of experience, Saklikent may not be the best resort to visit on your holidays to Turkey.

Taking in the sunshine and fantastic views from the summit is far removed from the hustle and bustle of summer holidays in this region and it's this diversity that makes holidays to Turkey so popular all year round.

There's also a motel you can stay at in the resort if you fancy making the most of your Turkish skiing holiday by spending s few days in the mountains.

Other Activities

As well as skiing you can also enjoy snowboarding with equipment available for hire and if the snow isn't too deep, there are some great walks and rock climbing to discover.

Saklikent is not well known when it comes to Turkey holidays, but even if you're in the Antalya region in the summer months, a trip up here will allow you to enjoy cooler temperatures and see a different side to Turkey from the buzzing seaside resorts.

Ski holidays to Turkey are growing in popularity and a visit to Saklikent definitely won't disappoint.

The Co-operative Travel sends people on thousands of holidays to Turkey leaving from the UK every year. Turkish holidays are now popular all year round.
