Severe Weather Is Upon Us; Hurricane Season Is Nearing - Greenville Sc

Spring is here meaning that it is time for severe weather – severe thunderstorms, high winds, large hail and the strong possibility of tornadoes. People may love thunderstorms, but homeowners aren’t so keen on the idea.
Heavy thunderstorms that bring in high winds and large hail can bring, in some cases, severe damage to your home specifically your roof. Winds can tear off your shingles plus the underlying part of your roof while hail can damage your shingles resulting in leaks inside your home. Not only can the wind itself damage your roof, but also the flying debris that the wind brings your way.

The thing with hail damage is that it isn’t nearly as easy to detect as wind damage. Usually, whether you are experienced in the field or not, you can see the problems that high winds cause, but with hail, the damage may not be able to be as easily detected because the damage is so small and you don’t know exactly what you are looking for. Sometimes hail can simply bruise your shingles causing the loss of granule, which could flow into your gutters causing the water flow to backup and not drain properly. ...
... So, hail damage could just be a small dent or hole that you couldn’t possibly see unless you were trained in finding these issues.
Tornadoes can also cause severe damage to roof, sometimes ripping the entire roof off. The reason for this is because roofs aren’t made to withstand the winds and the power of a tornado nor are they designed to withstand the high winds that a hurricane can bring in.
The season for severe weather is upon us and the storms will start coming in before we know it. It is important to understand that after a big storm, your roof may have damage regardless of whether you can see it or not. The damage may be too small for the untrained eye to see and over time, this damage could result in subsequent damage to the interior of your home.
If you think you may have roof damage after a storm, call out a roofing contractor or company to check it out. It is always better to be safe than sorry especially when another storm will be on its way possibly causing even more damage. More than likely, you will save money in the long run by doing this if damage is found and repaired the first time rather than waiting and allowing even more damage to pile up possibly causing an even larger concern later such as issues with the roof deck.
