Eye Exercises And Corrective Lenses
When discussing eye exercises, it’s important to realize that the eye care establishment opposes all methods of natural vision improvement including eye exercises, acupressure, yoga, and nutrition. The reason is simple. All optometric colleges were built or sponsored by the optical industry for the purpose of training eye doctors to prescribe corrective lenses. The last thing the optical glass industry wants are eye exercises that reduce public demand for their products.
Nevertheless, many people have used eye exercises since they were discovered almost 100 years ago for the simple reason that they work. In most cases, eye exercises significantly reduce the need for corrective lenses. In some cases, eye exercises completely restore normal vision.
Eye Exercises Versus Corrective Lenses
Although corrective lenses have helped millions of people see better, they are a "quick fix" that only treat the symptoms – blurred vision – not the underlying problem, which is usually stress or the aging process. And it’s common knowledge that corrective lenses create dependency and make the eyes even weaker, ...
... forcing most people to need progressively stronger prescriptions.
In contrast, eye exercises tackle the underlying problem by reducing stress and making the eyes stronger and healthier.
Eye exercises have been proven effective in clinical studies as shown by recent research (www.visiontherapy.net) that was submitted for publication in the Journal of the American Optometric Association:
"21 subjects with common visual problems including myopia, presbyopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism completed a 6 week course of eye exercises. 19 subjects obtained improvements in refractive error and visual acuity, and 16 subjects reduced their dependency on corrective lenses so that they no longer needed them or only wore them part of the time."
Try These Simple Eye Exercises
Eye Exercise #1: Breaking The Habit
Since corrective lenses usually make the eyes weaker, the first eye exercise is to break the habit of leaving them on all the time. Regard them as tools that you need for various activities and take them off when you finish the activity.
Going without corrective lenses whenever it is safe to do so will automatically make your eyes stronger, because you will learn to see for yourself instead of relying on "eye crutches". If you have an old pair of weaker glasses, wear them instead of your current prescription.
Eye Exercise #2: Flexing
Remove your glasses and look at a near object such as pen, flower, or trinket about 6" from the tip of your nose. Now look at a far object such as a building, tree, or something across the room.
Now change focus between the near object and the far object in time to your breathing: (inhale/near)(exhale/far). Hold the near object still and look at a detail on each object every time you change focus. Do this eye exercise for up to 10 minutes.
Eye Exercise #3: Detailing
Get an interesting object such as a plant or ornament and put it where it's slightly blurred. Now remove your glasses and carefully examine a small detail by slowly running your gaze around its edges, and try to see its exact shape.
Aim for calm, relaxed, contemplative vision. Breathe slowly and deeply and don't squint, strain, or use any tricks. Try to see even smaller details inside the detail you are looking at. Then look at another detail and repeat the exercise. Do this eye exercise for up to 10 minutes.
