The admission process for 63 colleges under Delhi University (DU) started from June 1 and over 26,000 forms were sold on the first day. The university has sold over 80,000 common pre-admission forms so far. In all, Delhi University will admit 49,000 students in 47 undergraduate courses this year.

In spite of instructions from the DSW office about the common admission forms, most students flocked to different colleges to purchase individual forms. However, only Jesus and Mary, St Stephen’s and Khalsa College will rely on separate admission forms. “Apart from these three, all other colleges will use the common admission forms. Through this form, we collect students’ data and their choice of college and course. We then send this data to the respective colleges and students can check their names once the first cut-off list is released.

Specific Admission Forms

However, there are certain courses for which students need to obtain separate forms (see box). Also, those seeking admission through the quota for sports and extra curricular activities (ECA), are advised to check with individual colleges before ...
... applying.

Many colleges are also offering students the option of applying online. So, check college websites as well. Further, forms for the Common Aptitude Test for English (CATE) — for admission to English (honours) courses at 12 colleges — are available only at the Arts Faculty, North Campus.

Distance Learning Courses

Admission forms for the School of Open Learning (SOL) are also being sold simultaneously. According to H C Pokhriyal, executive director, SOL, “Although our admission process starts with the rest of the colleges, it continues till October 31.

Besides BA (pass) and BCom (pass), SOL also offers BA (honours) in English and political science and BCom (honours). Those interested can apply before any one of the three admission dates: by August 17 (without any late fee) followed by September 17 and October 31 (with late fee).

Separate Registration

Registration for physically challenged students is open between 10am and 2pm, at the DSW Office in North Campus and forms are available for them free of cost. Also, to help visually impaired candidates, the university has installed a ‘talking computer’ this year.

Delhj University reserves 3% seats in every college for the differently-abled. However, university authorities are concerned that some seats may be left vacant. “Many seats under this category go vacant. Last year the university admitted only 336 students with special needs.

This year, they asked CBSE for the number of students with special needs who appeared for the class XII board exams. There are more than 1,000 such students and DU has approximately 1,100 seats reserved under this category. They want every student to come here and continue their education.
