One of the great things about life and living is that people are defined by diversity. Everyone is different, from the way one lives, to the beliefs and customs to personal preferences and tastes. Diversity is one of those things that make us human, and will always be there. Of the many things that make different people and cultures diverse, religion is considered as the ‘hottest’ topic. This is a polarizing topic for some, but when properly understood and used, this can help people understand who we are as humans, how society operates and how our systems work the way it does. So the challenge for anyone is to understand this, spread the word about its importance and worth and this can be done by using resources, books and religion magazine or brochures.

There are different kinds of religion and each one is unique on many counts. The adherents of Christianity believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that God became human and the savior of humanity. As an organization and structure, Christianity is composed of three groups. These groups are the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church and the many churches of Protestantism.

Islam is also a monotheistic religion as stated on the Qur’an which is considered as to be the verbatim word of God according to its adherents. The word ‘Islam’ can refer to the religion and the word can be used as well to connote ‘submission to God’, ‘peace’, ‘surrender’ and ‘way to peace’. If Christianity is grouped into three, Islam on the other hand has two groupings or called denominations. The first denomination is called Sunni and accounts to 80-90 percent of all Muslims. The other denomination is Shia. In terms of numbers, there are roughly 1.5 billion adherents of Islam and these are scattered in many countries in the world. The largest Muslim country is Indonesia and roughly 13 percent of all Muslims are in this Asian country. Right now, a check with religion magazine and publication reveal that this is still growing and considered as one of the fastest growing religions.

It is important that one must not just know the major ones; rather even the smallest religion in terms of adherents should be learned and understood as well. Knowing all these is one good step for people to embrace diversity and in the process, to understand why people from different regions behave the way they do, and the way they act.
