In any organization or company, it becomes very important for the management to measure the performance of its employees. In the parlance of corporate world, it is known as Performance Management System. It is the responsibility of this department to see to it that all the goals and objectives of the organization are fulfilled by the employees in an efficient way. This is done to keep a track record of the growth rate of the company which is directly dependant on its employees or departments, products and services. It is mainly done to manage the employees to get performance–driven work and desired output to achieve goals both strategic and long term.

Their reward is directly based on the amount of value they have added to the company and on the basis of their productivity and worth in a given period of time.
Other factors that can help in gaining Performance Appraisal are mainly related to well-co-ordination and communication among superiors, sub-ordinates and other co-workers. A good understanding of the needs and responsibilities of the company and work accordingly can also help in establishing a good repute which can further result in an appraisal. This form of appraisal on the basis of performance can be dated back to the 20th century and even before that during the Second World War.
