How Should Spa Therapists Look

Spa literally translates to the phrase, Salus per aqua, or “healing by water.” Traditionally, you may see in product manuals that spas are vacation destinations and are surrounded by water. You can stay there for several days and just be refreshed because of the treatments that you will get. While browsing through those print manuals, you will usually see that they have photos of the place and set ups of their services. The attendants are usually photographed on the side. They look neat, clinical, and decent. The overall appearance must really be part of the training manuals so that they look all presentable.
Hair - The hair is our crowning glory but if we work in a spa, it should be tied back in a neat bun. As much as possible, the therapist should wear a hair net to prevent wisps of stray strand from getting to their faces. If not, they should at least apply a hair gel to keep all strands in place. When you are doing a massage, the last thing that you would is to have your therapist’s hair falling on your clients. At the same time, unkempt hair will just get in the way of their service as they will have to push ...
... it back or put them behind their ears. That is a waste of time and unsanitary, too.
Nails - Fingernails of therapists should be kept short and buffed. That means not only are these cut short all the time, they need to file them. That will ensure that their finger nails do not have jagged edges that might cause scratches on their client’s skin. They should not apply colorful nail polish because it is distracting. You should always check your therapists’ hands that these are smooth. Rough hands make massage uncomfortable. Teach them to use any of those store-bought scrubs and lotion in order to soften their hands.
Uniforms - Your therapists should have issue uniforms that are decently cut, much like uniforms of caregivers. These could be in any subdued color and made of plain materials. Prints can be distracting for people who want to relax. Therapists should wear pants. No short skirts or plunging necklines or tight-fitting blouses and pants. That will make them look respectable. And their looks will not get in the way of their client’s relaxation time.
Hygiene - Therapists should come to work clean and freshly showered. They should not reek of unpleasant odor from their mouth, underarms, feet, or anywhere else. They should be advised to brush their teeth and use mouthwash especially before they are going to face a client. They should also use a good brand of deodorant should they have body odor. While they should not smell awful, they should not wear very strong perfumes either because some clients are sensitive to strong smells.
Many of those therapist photos featured in product manuals are models. They may not be fashion models but they are not real-life therapists. But your own therapists can look like those in print manuals as long as they follow certain hygiene and grooming system. Part of their training should teach them how to do that because sometimes they are not aware how they look or present themselves. The standard or the norm should be included in their training manuals lest they forget.
