In the year 1988, to celebrate the 100th birthday of the First Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indian Railways came up with one of the fastest trains named as the Shatabdi Express with Shatabdi meaning ‘hundred’ in hindi. These trains were made for short to medium distances travelling at a speed of 100-130 kmph. As on 1st July 2010, The Indian Railways operated 13 pairs of Shatabdi Expresses. These are day trains generally offering air conditioned seats (and not berth) with a wider leg space along with high quality food to the passengers.
In their drive to be the best trains by Indian Railways, these trains also offers a multitude of Shatabdi train enquiry services. The Shatabdi train enquiry services also include internet services through Indian Railways website www.indianrail.gov.in having a special section for the Shatabdi trains. For manual Shatabdi train enquiry service, one can go to any of the enquiry centers located at various railway stations across the country.
