PMS, the abbreviation for premenstrual syndrome, is a condition that not only affects women, but people around them also. There are over 100 physical and emotional symptoms associated with PMS and coping with them can prove troublesome. There are various home remedies for PMS which make women's life easier and help them put behind specific symptoms. Many women find relief from one of the most common symptoms of PMS (abdominal cramps) if they take a hot shower or a hot bath. This relaxes them and reduces the pain. Hot compresses applied on the abdominal area might also help. Soak a towel in hot water and use it.
The diet plays an important part in how women feel. Lack of certain minerals and vitamins can worsen PMS symptoms. Some foods are excellent home remedies for PMS and they should be consumed a few days before PMS is assumed to hit. Avocadoes for instance can help women cope with emotional symptoms such as mood swings because they enhance the production of serotonin. The same effect can be obtained by including in the diet eggplant, papaya, pineapple or plums.
Bananas are very rich in potassium, a key element ...
... for fighting PMS. This makes them excellent home remedies for PMS. Potassium prevents water retention and bloating which are common during the menstrual period of women. This mineral can also be found in broccoli, onion, tomatoes or potatoes.
In order to reduce the intensity of abdominal cramps, women can drink a cup of tea. This will also relax them. Chamomile tea and peppermint tea are good home remedies for PMS. Yarrow tea is also effective in reducing cramps. You can add lemon to the tea and you can also put a teaspoon of whiskey in it because small quantities of alcohol promote muscular relaxation.
Many PMS symptoms are caused by an imbalance in the hormonal levels which occurs before and during women's period. Rosemary is one of the best home remedies for PMS because it acts at hormonal level and it helps women get rid of PMS symptoms. Put one teaspoon of dried rosemary leaves in a cup of boiling water and steep for 10 minutes. This should be consumed twice a day, preferably in the days before the period is expected.
