Are you hosting a party for your child? You must be surely excited as you choose the cake, the birthday outfit, the menu, the favors, and the giveaways. Then you decide on the invitations. Will you buy store-bought cards and just fill in the blanks with the appropriate information? Or should you make a customize invitation? A good idea would be to send out photo postcards as your invitation.

The photo postcard printing is pretty cheap and easy to send, too. So if you know some basic computer design skills using Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop, or even just Microsoft Word, you can actually make your own photo invitation.

If you have a nice printer, you can just buy those pre-cut 6”x4” photo papers from the store and then print your design for your postcards. But before making many copies, just print one so that you will see the actual resolution and colors of your work. The test print will allow you to make the necessary corrections on your design. You can actually use regular white bond paper for this purpose, but photo papers make the colors of your invitation stand out. If you do not have a printer, save your design in a CD or a thumb drive and bring it to your local photo developing lab. Most of the time, you will just have to wait an hour and then you can claim your prints.

When you are done with the photo printing, cut the same size card stock and stick the photo invitations on them. That will make the invitations thicker and sturdier. On the backside, write the word “Postcard” on top. On the left side, write a short note to your addressee. The right side will be for the name and address of the recipient as well as the postage stamp. The purpose of the card stock is so that you could write on the back side because photo papers usually have a shiny back part that do not let the ink dry. Also, photographs bend but placing a card stock behind it will make it flat.

Sending out these photo invitation postcards will save you money from gas that you will consume when you have to deliver them. Even if your friends live in the same city, driving to their houses will entail time and eat up a lot of gas. So to save on fuel, spend a few cents on the stamp for the postcards and it will get to your friends’ houses in no time. And since these are just postcards and not those bulky invitation cards with envelopes, postage is minimal. Just make sure that you send out your invitations at least a week before to allow for shipping and delivery.
