Lap Band is referred to as laparoscopic adjustable gastric band is an inflatable silicone device that is placed around the top position of the stomach via a surgery, known as Laparoscopic Surgery or Lap Band Surgery, in order to treat obesity. It has been observed recently that obesity is growing rapidly in USA along with rest of the world. Obesity is defined by medical experts as having a body mass index (BMI) of over 40 or greater or between 35 and 40 in cases of patients suffered from diabetes, GERD, high blood pressure (Hypertension), sleep apnea, osteoarthritis or metabolic syndrome.

Lap band surgical procedure involves the placement of an adjustable belt at the upper position of the stomach. Silicon is used to make the band and it can be tightened by adding saline to fill the band. The band is connected to a port that is placed under the skin in abdomen. Saline is inserted or removed by using this band. Lap band surgery finally restricts the size of the stomach and the amount of food it can hold. It also slows the speed of food through the passage of intestine.

... 40 are ideal patients whom need to perform Lap band surgery. Most surgeons and programs want to note the history of failed weight loss treatment in the past using more traditional approaches. This surgical procedure is followed on the adults only, not to be performed on those who are less than 18 years old. Before going through the surgical procedure, patients must know the demonstration of the whole surgical process and they should be ready for adhering the changed life-style that are needed to make this treatment successful. Many medical centers provide the psychological assessment to the patient which will help them to prepare mentally for the surgical operation.

Lap band surgery is done on the basis of patients’ physical conditions and other factors. It can be postponed if patients are not able to understand the procedure or they are not mentally prepared for it. If the patients are suffered from the critical diseases like ulcers, surgeons reviewed the history of the disease in the patient carefully before performing lap band surgery.
