Building relationships is the most important part of teacher training courses. Primary teachers in India who are teaching young impressionable minds have a challenging role to play as they have to constantly work towards building relationships. As part of primary teachers or Montessori teachers training, there are certain basic rules for building relationship with students.
Maintaining Eye Contact - This is the first important element of relationship building that is special and makes a lot of difference in teaching young minds. When you maintain eye contact, you relate to that person better and give important to his existence. Eye contact can be the most important form of non-verbal communication. Eye contact also increases the level of engagement between the primary teachers and young learners and help in strengthening the bond between the two.
A Broad Smile - Another priceless possession that helps in building relationships is a smile. An important part of primary teachers training is that the teacher should invite young learners into her world through smile. ...
... It conveys that primary teacher values the other person. Simple sentences such as “Good morning”, “Have a nice day” etc can be said with a smile. A sweet smile not only recognizes that the other person is important and can also help overcome any crisis situation.
Taking the Name – Memorizing the names is an important part of primary teacher training courses. Teachers are taught to memorize the names of young learners. They feel special when the teacher takes their names. Taking names is quite flattering. When the student realizes that his/her name is being taken, he develops a sense of belonging and feels empowered.
Importance of touch – Touch is a special part of building relationships. This aspect is always treated as an important part of primary teachers training program. This can range from a simple handshake to a pat on the back and even a small peck on the cheek.
At American TESOL Institute (ATI), relationship building is an integral part of primary teachers training program. By teaching primary teachers in India to use these elements for relationship building, ATI believes that that this can make their primary education complete.
