We live in an age where we are encouraged to be who we want to be, and this often extends to the way we look and how we act. Many people feel as though the traditions followed by our predecessors are archaic and out of place in the modern rush of today's busy environment. In fact, the way people communicate today often serves to reinforce our deviation from interpersonal contact that a few years ago was the only way to connect. Email, web conferencing, and other digital communications have made the world a smaller place but they have also allowed many of us to forget that first impressions truly matter. As much as we resist the concept that we are judged by our appearance, believing that it's only the inside that counts, there comes a time when we must recognize that our behavior and outward appearance do have an impact on how others perceive us.

Job interviews: There is nothing quite like the pressure of a job interview. Years of education and experience are on the line as you walk into the office of the person who will say yes or no to the next step in your career. The most sought after jobs naturally have the savviest ...
... interviewers, and the process does not begin with the questions. From the moment you first open the office door, you are being evaluated and compared against candidates that came before and will come after you. In this situation, it is absolutely critical that you project the best possible representation of yourself. Our appearance, body language, communication skills, and posture will all come together for the interviewer and help her form an impression as to how you will fit in with the current employees of the company and its vision. Having a personal image consultant prepare you for the rigors of the interview will give you an edge over the competition.

Stretching your horizons: From high level corporate events to fine dining with the future in-laws, many of us face occasions that place us in situations with which we are not at all familiar. These events can frequently include people of unfamiliar cultures and customs. A common concern with many people is the etiquette, mannerisms, and procedures involved at a fine dining establishment. The array of utensils in particular has proven a major obstacle to many a person who has gone out for a rare evening with a CEO and fumbled over choosing a fork. A personal image consultant can take you beyond the realm of the restaurant and train you in hosting your own high-end affairs, whether your guest is your fiance's Mom or your CEO's merger prospect from China.

Today's world is one in which the cultures of many nations are being intertwined for business as well as personal purposes, and one in which, contrary to the popular perception put out by Hollywood, good manners and bearing are essential. In order to become a power person, it is imperative that you understand how to function in a variety of different environments. A personal image consultant is a professional who can help you in your quest to get ahead.
