A good bit of thought must go into product distribution if you operate a company whose core business is producing and marketing goods to the general public. If your business is based on the process of producing a particular product and getting it to the public then you are tasked of coming up with a reliable form of distribution that best suits your business and the products you sell.

There are a lot of different paths a product might take on its way to its final destination, but not all of those paths are appropriate for all types of products or all types of businesses. If you consider for a second that your company raises cattle that will eventually become food you would realize that there is a very specific channel your product must take on its way to the consumer. Some goods don't have any sort of time limit but still have other things to be taken into consideration such as how they can best be packaged and shipped and what kind of stores would be most capable of selling them.

There are actually some quite incredible services available to help with getting your products where they are intended to go ...
... such as order fulfillment services and distribution centers. With a distribution center at your command you have the ability to store a very adequate number of products at any given time, and when an order comes in the warehouse staff will be able to pick and pack your products and have them shipped out to their various destinations.

There are many different ways a distribution center can handle your products depending on what they are and how they are being delivered. They can handle direct shipping orders that must be shipped directly to the customer's residence. They can also load boxes of your inventory up on a semi trailer in bulk to be hauled off to a major retailer to be sold on a shelf. When looking into these two methods you'd see that shipping directly cuts out a middle man but leaves you with many more accounting responsibilities while shipping to a retailer leaves you with larger shipments and fewer transactions.

There are really a lot of channels one could take when it comes to product distribution that there is no right or wrong way to do it; just ways that serve you better or worse than others. There is a lot of careful planning that must be put into deciding what sort of distribution will work best for your product and company, but with a little thought you will find exactly what works best for you.
