The New Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray Goes Head To Head With Samsungs Great Galaxy S2 Device

Despite numerous efforts there has yet to be a smartphone to rival the excellent Galaxy S2 from Samsung. HTC have come close with models such as the Sensation and the Evo 3D but neither model quite matched the Samsung in terms of overall performance. The iPhone 4 is also snapping at its heels but still cannot eclipse the Galaxy S2. Now it is time for Sony Ericsson to step up to the plate with their new Xperia Ray model, a model which despite its compact dimensions boasts some great features. Are these facilities good enough however to rival the all conquering Galaxy S2?
Casting your eyes over both models for the first time and you discover there are quite distinct differences in the bodies of both handsets. Much of this difference can be attributed to the fact that there is a massive 1 inch difference in screen sizes meaning that the handsets will inevitably look very different. We still love the design of the Galaxy S2, its slab like appearance with sharp angles really does suit the large screen especially with the slim depth of 8.5mm that this model offers. Although not quite as wafer thin the Xperia Ray is still ...
... impressive at just 9.4mm. Sony have opted to add some neat curves to each end of the handset and also included some nice chrome touches that give the model a quite high end feel. At the end of the day both models look great in their own way and certainly are two of the best looking phones available. The real difference between these two models is screen size with multi media lovers likely to opt for the Galaxy S whilst those looking for a more compact device are likely to side with the Sony Ericsson. The Samsung 4.3 inch Super AMOLED screen is one the very best available and adds real depth and clarity to any image. Sony have opted for an LED backlit LCD screen which tanks to its 3.3 inch measurement manages to transform the average sounding 480 x 854 resolution into a pixels per inch rating of 296 which exceeds what the Samsung can offer. Having said that however the large screen on the Galaxy S2 will remain the favourite amongst movie and games lovers.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 surpasses what the Xperia Ray can offer in the performance department thanks to the high quality processor that it offers. At 1.2Ghz speed and with dual cores the chip is perfect for all manner of tasks with multi tasking being particularly impressive. The Sony Ericsson is certainly a fast handset however as it sports a 1Ghz processor which despite sounding modest is huge considering the relatively small strain that the compact screen places upon it. As you would expect from a handset that boasts about its multi media prowess the storage capacity on the Samsung Galaxy S2 is impressive. Consumers have the choice of a 16GB or a 32GB model and both sizes are also backed up my a micro SD card slot which enables a further 32GB to be added. This gives a potential total of 64GB which is about as high as you can expect from a mobile phone. The Xperia Ray offers a rather more modest 300MB but the same external card slot is present and the unit comes supplied with a 4GB card.
The Xperia Ray from Sony Ericsson continues the brands trend of producing desirable and high quality compact phones but the phone does not match the overall quality that is on offer with the Samsung Galaxy S2.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is available now and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is coming soon.
