All snoring is caused by is a narrowing of the throat and nose airways caused by bad sleeping posture. When airways are narrowed during sleep, the air you breathe in and breathe out has to push its way through a smaller than normal passage way which results in the snoring sound. The vibration of loose tissue at the back of your throat is what makes the sound. This makes it easy to understand why older people are more likely to snore because flesh and muscles lose some of their elasticity and become flabby as a person ages.

Some people are born with a narrow throat so they will be prone to snoring. Also if you have rather large tonsils or adenoids this will block the airflow resulting in snoring. Nasal blockages such as sinus problems will also cause snoring issues. People with colds, allergies and asthma will also be prone. Research has also shown that men are more likely to snore than women because they have narrower air passages in general than women.

Drugs and alcohol relax the throat muscles which can cause soft tissues to sag and then block of airflow resulting in snoring sounds. The way you sleep will ...
... also have an effect of whether you snore or not. When someone sleeps on their back, airways can get block resulting in the snoring sound. Overweight people have a tendency to snore more because of their larger necks and the extra amount of fat which causes obstructed airways.

Snoring is a real problem for many people causing a lot of tension in relationships. Some people snore so loudly they wake themselves up which means they are getting interrupted sleep which causes problems in their daily social life. Every person needs a good amount of uninterrupted sleep to function properly. We all need to recharge our batteries. Sleep deprivation is a terrible problem to suffer with and those that snore and the partners of snorers have to deal with this.

Sometimes it's just a case of life style change which can reduce snoring. If you eat healthily and get plenty of exercise, apart from feeling better in yourself, you should also see a difference in your snoring problem.

There are many so called cures for snoring which people rate. To see what one works for you will be trial and error. I would suggest a life style change rather than aids, but if that hasn't worked then look around for some tried and tested remedies. Lots of websites these days will have reviews about their products from happy customers. If a products works people will want to tell others.
