Generally it is believed that Search Engine Optimization is the responsibility of Webmasters or Marketing consultant or an SEO Executive, and web developers are not at all involved in it. The fact is SEO people are responsible for optimizing the website to get included in SERPs, so avoiding some guidelines at the time of development of the website can affect the optimization efforts after the development to get the required results.

Some basic techniques that are required to be followed during web development are being listed below.

1] Keywords: Here keyword doesn’t mean Meta tag, keywords which are included in the head section of the page. The maximum size of this tag should be around 250-300 characters and multiple keywords should be separated by using comma. Along with this repetition of words should be avoided in the keyword tag.

3] Title: Titles of the web pages are found to be confusing or consists of general words used to give basic information of the site. Well the most common title generally found is “untitled”. A good SEO practice is to use a title that reflects the content of the webpage in an appropriate manner. Including some relevant keywords in the title would add a help for the optimization of the web page. Google limits the size of title to 100 characters while some search engines only allow 60 characters. Moreover the title should be dissimilar from the domain name and file name as a good practice.

4] Head: Search engines checks that whether the heading of the web page is related to the content of the web page. The heading tag is used by including the relevant keywords to describe and present the content in the best way. Also more than one head tag in a page can be used.

The above guidelines should be followed while the development phase of the website for Search Engine Optimization. Also, certain activities should be avoided at the time of web development like including irrelevant keywords, stuffing many keywords unnecessarily, using hidden text or hidden links, or using dynamic URL where it is not needed.
