Recently, Google updated Chrome Stable Channel to 12.0.742.112 for all supporting platforms. The latest release by the developer incorporates an updated version of Adobe Flash Player (10.3). Google is known for bringing frequent updates for the browser. The latest update comes two weeks after the previous update. The company has also mitigated seven security vulnerabilities. Google has classified six of the addressed vulnerabilities as high, and one as medium risk vulnerability. The update resolves a use-after-free issue in SVG font handling, bad bounds check in v8, lifetime and re-entrancy issues in the HTML parser, use-after-free in text selection and memory corruption issue in Cascade Style Sheet (CSS) parsing. The vendor has also patched a use-after-free issue in SVG use element and out-of-bounds read issue in Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface (NPAPI) string handling. Miaubiz won $4500 as reward for reporting five of the high risk security issues addressed in Chrome.

Web browsers are susceptible to security issues. While Microsoft follows a monthly cycle of security updates, Google follows a more ...
... frequent cycle of updates. The latest update follows launch of Firefox 5 by Mozilla. Mozilla has decided to discontinue support for Firefox 4, which has apparently triggered adverse reactions from enterprises, who expect a more stable environment for their applications.

Internet users must keep track and adhere to the software and security updates by developers. Installation of latest updates is crucial to safeguard computer systems from malicious attacks, malware downloads and other forms of security risks. Internet users may acquaint themselves of latest security issues, preventive measures, and safe computing practices through online degree and learning programs.

Organizations face the challenge of dealing with frequent and numerous security updates. Professionals qualified in masters of security science and IT degree programs may help organizations in keeping track of security updates, identifying and prioritizing relevant updates, and application of patches. Appropriate patch management is crucial to protect computer systems and information stored on them.

Frequent changes in the security environment make it inevitable for security professionals to enhance their technical capabilities by participating in security conferences, and undertaking online university degree programs and security certifications.
