It is a lot to take in when you begin fighting, to choose the right fight gear for you without spending all of your life savings. I didn't have the faintest idea what to choose first, when I started training to be a fighter. The right fight gear is so important to your protection and the safety of your opponent. Fortunately, I had some knowledgeable fighters to talk with and I also read a lot online. Now after years of fighting, I can solidly recommend which gear a beginning fighter should choose as they start off.

Buying head gear is step one in the process to getting outfitted to fight. If you are going to spend some money, then this is the piece of equipment to do it on. Let's keep that brain functioning at a high level for a long time in the future. Be certain the head gear that you choose is approved for MMA fights or for boxing. To absorb the blows, foam padding is excellent around the head and face, however, make sure that there is enough space for you to see in your peripheral vision. Not to mention, try out the fit and if the lining of the gear works adequately with your head.

The mouthpiece ...
... is an extremely tiny piece of fight gear, that can save you from a life of a toothless grin. The pieces that cover both the top and the bottom are vital. If you really want to defend your mouth, order a custom fit mouthpiece that will fit perfectly and have the least chance of coming loose. These have been constructed under the supervision of dentists and are the number one choice.

To protect your hands and knuckles, purchase a pair of fight gloves that are specifically designed for boxing or MMA fighting. The wrist wrap protects your hands and wrist, while a polyurethane material is very long lasting. Protection over your knuckles will aid as your fists get used to punching. If you can afford it, select the 100% leather gloves as they will most likely last longer than the others.

Finally, a heavy bag is the perfect thing to practice on (that is if you can't talk your girlfriend into training with you). Select a heavy bag of at least 70 pounds and the taller it is, the more space you have to practice your swings and simulate a real opponent. For durability purposes, a polyurethane cap will help the bag last longer. These will get you off to the races before you have to invest in more gear.
