Let us discuss for a moment a few common mistakes in postcard printing. As you well should know, postcard printing should be a very simple affair really. However, lots of people still commit a few common amateur mistakes in printing postcards because they have not yet realized some of the crucial consequences of their specific choices in developing those postcards.

I am here now to point out to you these common mistakes and their consequences on your own color postcards. This is very important, especially for those business people out there who will be using those postcards for marketing purposes. So let me start by discussing with you one of the most common mistakes in postcard printing, and that is printing in black and white.

1. Using black and white postcards – There are people out there that think black and white postcards are a good and affordable alternative to full color postcards. However, while they are indeed considerably cheaper than the colored kind, they are also actually the ...
... most wasteful in terms of resources.

Why? Well because if you consider the results that stem from printing black and white postcards and full color postcards you will see that with cheap black and white prints, the returns are considerably lower. In fact, in some cases, no positive response can be had with black and white postcards because they look cheap, untrustworthy and not special for most readers. It will be a waste of time and money to print them. That is why going for them is a very big mistake that you must avoid.

2. Putting too much text in the cover – Some beginners also make the mistake of putting too much text in the cover. This happens when the beginner wants to turn their custom postcards into effective marketing prints without realizing that color postcards require some finesse when it comes to the cover itself. Putting too much text content on the cover may present the marketing message easier, but it also makes the postcard “less of a postcard”. It turns the postcard into a commercialized print that people regard as junk mail.

It is actually best to preserve the essence of a postcard by having a main image and one line of title or quotations. The rest of the marketing message must be printed at the back. This allows readers to accept the postcards more readily, even if it is a marketing postcard.

3. Choosing the cheap paper – It is also a gross mistake in postcard printing to choose cheap paper for the prints. Cheaper paper in postcard printing means weaker cards altogether. Weaker cards mean that those cards won’t last long enough to impress people once they arrive at their destination. They will look more haggard and damaged as they try to impress readers with their message, severely limiting their success. That is why it is best for you to invest in better quality materials for postcard printing.

4. Choosing the smallest size – You should also never choose the smallest size for postcards. This is a big mistake even if it will net you lots of savings. Smaller postcards means a smaller impact, and if you have rival postcards that do direct mail marketing on the same addresses, your own prints will hardly be a match. So always go for the best standard sized postcard template, especially for your postcard marketing.

Good! Now try to remember all of these common mistakes and try to avoid them as much as possible. Trust me, you never want to waste your postcard printing resources with bad decisions. So remember all of the above.
