Devils Tower – The First Declared Us National Monument
Devils Tower is a giant volcanic-neck-like rock hill located in Crook County, northeastern Wyoming, above the Belle Fourche River. Its summit reaches up to 1,267 feet (386m) from the foot, and its boundary encloses an area of 1,347 acres (5.45 km2). The Tower is made entirely of ochre yellow rock, reflecting different colors viewing from different directions and in different weather conditions. It was established as the first declared United States National Monument by President Theodore Roosevelt on Sep. 24, 1906.
Local aborigines worship the monolith. Tribes including Arapaho, Kiowa, Crow, Cheyenne, Lakota, and Shoshone had cultural and geographical ties to the Monument since hundreds of years ago.
Devils Tower is one of the best and difficult crack climbing places in North America. In recent decades, a total of more than 50,000 tourists applied for climbing Devils Tower, among whom less than a hundred only succeeded, several of whom even lost their lives. To respect the American Indian culture, climbers are suggested to cancel their applications by the administrative unit every June.
The film Close Encounters ...
... of the Third Kind, directed by Steven Spielberg in 1977, made the Devils Tower known worldwide, resulting in a bulging tourist capacity, and geographic features and tales of the Tower were then valued as a result.
Geologists agree that Devils Tower was formed by the intrusion of igneous material. What they cannot agree upon is how exactly that process took place. Some geologists came to the conclusion that the Tower was formed by an igneous intrusion. Several geologists believe the molten rock comprising the Tower might not have surfaced. Some researchers are convinced the tower is all that remains of what once was a large explosive volcano. Some decided that Devils Tower must be an eroded remnant of a laccolith. Anyway, the nature is surely the genius.
It must be the most beautiful formal gowns dresses I've ever seen!
