Leblond Engine Lathe,

The Leblond engine lathe is amongst the largest class of lathes and is designed for the machining or hard materials. Due to its ability to machine hard materials and the large diameter parts that the engine lathe is capable of turning, it has become one of the highest demanded engine lathes on the market. The Leblong is known for its simple design. It also has a reputation of being easy to operate and repair. With these engine lathes you get exceptional support with parts available for nearly any model and age machine. This is ideal for most industrial and manufacturing industries that are relying on heavy output from with durable and low maintenance equipment.
Ultimately, the engine lathe is a lathe with automatic feed to the cutting tool. This is unlike early lathes that were used with manual feeds only or that were used with hand-held tools. With early engine lathes the spindle was usually attached to a multi-step cone pulley designed to accommodate a flat belt. Moving the flat belt to different steps on the cone pulley would allow different spindle speeds. These types of lathes usually had a counter shaft on the ...
... back of the cone that could be engaged in order to provide a lower set of speeds than was obtainable by direct belt drive.
With the incorporation of the electric motor these cone head lathes converted to electric power. This is along the lines of the Leblond Engine lathe. The Leblond has controls that are easy to use, made suitable for your need. The spindle with this machine has forward, reverse and stop options. The forward button is for conventional turning. The other options control the rotation direction and stop of the lathe motor.
The half nut lever is the lever that used for thread cutting and closes over the lead screw. There is also a RPM Selector that is located near the spindle control buttons that changes the rotation speed of the spindle. In order to change the gears, the spindle must first come to a complete stop. To stop the spindle motor before switching gears there is a spindle control handle used.
The automatic drive for the longitudinal feed and the cross-feed are handled by the power feed. The longitudinal and cross-feed handwheels are used for moving the carriage to and from the headstock and moving the slide that holds the tool post in and out from the spindle axis of rotation. The table lock should be tightened to keep the carriage from moving while making a cross-feed.
This engine lathe also has compound rest screw that can be used for making accurate cuts below 0.001 and threading parts but this isn't adjusted very often.
