When a husband or boyfriend travels for business, the wife or girlfriend is often invited to attend. Sometimes the trip includes a convention that the wife or girlfriend is not required to attend. Most often, they are not even interested in that part of the trip if it is something which is really not their concern.

When a woman accompanies her significant other on a trip where they are not intending to be together, as when on vacation for instance, she might enjoy sight-seeing or shopping sprees. She can enjoy quiet times catching up on the reading which she may have not had time to do at home.

Organized sight-seeing tours can be arranged by the hotel or by a travel agent in advance. Sometimes simply wandering around on one's own or with an associate, friend, or acquaintance will bring about delightful surprises especially if one takes the opportunity to discover the non-touristy areas.

If she is a student, she might enjoy studying in a different environment which would be a nice break from her usual routine. Sometimes these trips take place in resort areas, so if she enjoys swimming, lying on the beach ...
... or tanning by the pool, she can take advantage of this free time without concern for schedules, deadlines, meetings, etc.

Shopping areas will usually be plentiful unless the resort is fairly private. Even so, shops might be more on the exclusive side. They will probably offer intriguing and unique items which often provide pleasure for years to come.

Art galleries could be interesting places to visit. If the area is well-known for its artists or it particular type of art, for instance, the terra-cotta in a town nearby Florence, Italy, it would be well-worth while doing some online research. The research can be done at home before travelling or while at the actual destination. In any event, knowing at least a little about the history of the art, will be beneficial in appreciating the work even more.

When travelling with a spouse or boyfriend who is attending a convention, the accommodations are usually at least high-end middle to upper-scale places. The cuisine will be top notch and the service admirable.
