Plan Your Yelagiri Holiday Easily

Yelagiri is a hill station situated in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. It is about 150 km from Bangalore and 250km from Chennai.
The weather is uniformly pleasant, even during May and June. When competing hill stations like Ooty and Kodaikanal are more or less cut off during the monsoons, Yelagiri becomes the ideal place for a quiet getaway in June. Yelagiri is also a lot less commercialized compared to Ooty and Kodaikanal but at the same time has a good access road and good road signs.
Yelagiri is a place you head to for a “chilled out weekend” from Bangalore. Or from Chennai. The drive is short enough. The place is charming, not flooded with tourists, the hills are gentle, the lake is just large enough to stroll around.
It is also a good place to go for Trekking. One of the more popular treks is a two hour trek to Swamimalai hill which is the highest point in Yelagiri. It can take a good two hours but well worth it for the breathtaking view. This hill also has some good trekking routes through dense reserved forests. There are other trekking options that include smaller peaks like Javadi Hills, ...
... Palamathi Hills.
Jalagamparai Waterfalls which is over 30km from the main town is another popular destination. The River Attaaru, runs through the valleys of Yelagiri Hills, and at the village of Jadaiyanoor, flows over to form the waterfall. It is an ideal place to go on a day long trek. But make sure you're well-stocked with water and food, facilities around are pretty basic. Also unless there has been sufficient rains, this waterfall can be dry. Yelagiri Hills doesn’t really have a monsoon season, rainfall here is a spill-over from rainfall in nearby Bangalore or Chennai regions. Check with the locals before heading out.
There are some charming temples like the Velavan Temple that you can visit. The festival is in the Tamil month of Adi which is around July-August. The temple is also gives you a good view point of the surrounding hills.
