WINTER

If you enjoy the great outdoors, Canada provides ample opportunity for seasonal occupation. The southern region has many tourist attractions from ski resorts to national parks. In the Western provinces, Whistler and Banff have become two of Canada’s most targeted destinations while in the east, Quebec and Ontario host visitors at the Mont Tremblant and Talisman resorts among many others. These locations provide numerous seasonal jobs through exchange and work visa programs. Chalet Reps
There is a lot to be said for getting a job in a ski chalet. Once you have the job cracked you will get plenty of time out to yourself. Chalets can vary in size from individually run chalets for 7 or 8 people, up to big 30 or 40 person chalets with specialist and management staff. Small chalets can be individually managed while the larger ones will employ a permanent manager, chefs and assistants.
A typical day will see you preparing breakfast and then cleaning up, making a cake and mid-day refreshments for clients to help themselves to and then preparing the evening meal. You normally have the rest of the time between when you finish (10.30 am depending on how good you get!) until early evening (5 or 6 pm) to yourself. You will then serve evening meal, and depending on the size of the chalet sit down and eat with clients.

Ski Rep
Being a Ski Rep is a fantastic role. With fresh invigorating alpine air, skiing and snowboarding on your day off and the chance to meet loads of new and interesting people. Life as a rep is great fun and hard work. You'll be directly responsible for people’s' fun and enjoyment. Whether you're making welcome visits, dealing with queries, selling extra packages or dealing with resort admin there is always plenty to do. The role requires well organised, practical people with bags of energy and enthusiasm.

Ski Instructor
Skiing is great fun, but all too soon your boots are off and you are making your way back to the airport for the return home. If only there was a way to prolong your stay in the mountains. The benefits of getting a ski instructor job could include free or cheap lift passes, subsidised meals and accommodation, discounts on clothing and equipment hire, not to mention the best office environment you could ever imagine. So if you can already ski and want to teach others this is the job for you. If you can’t, don’t worry there are lots of instructor courses out there to help you on your way!

Minding Kids in Whistler
If you are a confident skier and love kids, this is the place for you. Work with the Whistler Blackcomb Ski School and be a Den Master in the resort crèche. Once you have got enough skiing experience under your belt and have taken your Level One Ski Instructor Qualification (cost approx. £250) you will be able to take the kids out onto the slopes for lessons!

Rockies Resorts
Resorts in The Rockies are extremely popular and there are plenty of Gap Year opportunities in the hospitality industry dependent on experience. You should average about $10 (approx. £4.50) per hour before tips for 30-40 hours a week. Hours vary with the season, snow conditions and guest numbers; normally you get two days off to ski. Your employer provides accommodation for you (this comes out of your pay cheque), leaving you money to have fun with. So if skiing, cross-country, snowboarding, skating and sledging appeals, this is definitely the job for you.

Tremblant Housekeeping
Most people stick to bar or restaurant work in Tremblant, which caters largely to Canadian families and tourists but there are also opportunities for housekeeping work in hotels, and by comparing flights to Canada you can really save on getting there. The better your French, the better your chance of moving to a front-of-house role such as waiter, barman, reception, customer services and so on. But don't worry if French is not your strong point, if you're keen to learn, you can do a course and practise at work.

SUMMER

These ski resort towns are known during the summer for their shopping, restaurants, natural beauty and outdoor activities. Hospitality and tourism have been experiencing higher profits, creating a rush in demand for summer employment. These jobs include waiters and waitresses, chefs, desk clerks, maintenance and labour workers, tour guides, sales people and customer service representatives.

The summer months also create a increase in the number of young children who attend camps in Canada. A number of positions are available for both specialised and general camp counsellors and employees. Concentrating on horseback riding, swimming, kayaking, tennis, arts and crafts and care giving can often earn employees larger amounts of money.

Restaurant Work in Whistler
There are numerous jobs working in the bars and restaurants in the resort of Whistler. You will work full time in this busy resort. Most of the restaurants and bars work on a rotation system so one day you may be washing dishes and the next you may be a cashier serving customers.
