South Carolina Travertine Paver

When it comes to surfacing the topography around the house, travertine pavers have proven to be the best suited natural stone material for a host of reasons.
Ideal for patios and around the pool due to its non-slip surface, it stays cool on your feet in the summer and adapts to the extremes of weather because it is freeze-thaw compatible. Natural South Carolina travertine paver is a no-maintenance material that requires no cleaning, it is durable, reliable and the natural colors will not fade over time. Far different from any man-made materials, natural stone pavers are distinguished by their special appearance.
Travertine Has a Long History
More modern properties can boast their travertine-clad structures and pavers such as The Getty Center in Los Angeles, which contracted specifically to obtain their natural stone directly from Tivoli to recreate famous Roman landmarks. The Romano-Byzantine Sacré Cœur Basilica in Paris and the classical modernist Shell-Haus in Berlin are other examples of buildings constructed in travertine.
Often Compared to ...
... Marble
Quarried from waterfalls situated in natural hot springs, travertine marble or travertine limestone, one and the same, is actually formed of limestone. It can be polished smooth to a shiny marble-like finish. While marble is the oldest natural stone on earth at 100 million years, limestone is the youngest, only 50 million years old. Travertine has characteristic pitted holes and troughs noted in the surface while marble has more veining throughout.
The mineral layers built up from the limestone deposits washed by the waters of hot springs dissolves into calcite, aragonite and forms of calcium carbonate. Their natural color is retained and won't fade the way concrete pavers can. These are not man-made surfaces and therefore will not scuff or degrade. South Carolina Travertine Paver is an excellent material for patios and walkways, any high traffic areas, and edgings, such as for driveways.
The travertine market was primarily monopolized by Italy until recent imports coming from Turkey, Mexico, Iran, the United States and Peru. The list of colors available is quite lengthy with all of them having tonal characteristics that reflect the mineral layers. They range from neutral beige to rich walnut and everything in between. Each shade has other shades within it, making the color as much a part of the design as the cut of the stone.
Travertine is finished in a honed or chiseled edge, as tumbled pavers, and antique, or cushion or pillow-edged pavers. Being a quarried stone, it can be cut to customized size specifications for installation in a wide variety of mesmerizing patterns and designs.
