A traffic advisor can be programmed to flash in different patterns which catch immediate attention. The flash patterns can direct the oncoming traffic to take diversions or slow down when the emergency area is approaching. Flash patterns on the vehicle tops also tell the traffic that the vehicle is moving slowly. In some cases, flashing traffic advisor along with a siren is used to demand the right of way, if the vehicle is moving in high speeds and there is a chase ongoing. A traffic advisor is built sturdily to last through the wear and tear, and deliver without failing. The LED bulbs used in the traffic advisor do not heat up and burn out even when used continuously for hours together. They are highly energy efficient and emit bright beams of light, keeping the emergency vehicle and security personnel out of danger.

Some traffic advisors have different colors incorporated in the single light bar, which helps them multi function. These can be controlled to flash using all the colors of light, or just a single color of light based on the emergency at hand. traffic advisor that comes with light arrows can direct the traffic to turn left or right, to avoid the emergency area. These are best when used at the beginning or end of a traffic detour, or even when the roads are temporarily closed for construction work, or some other emergency situation.

The best feature of the traffic advisor is that it can be removed and remounted on whichever side of the vehicle. Rear mount traffic advisor is used to direct the following traffic, while top mount advisor is generally used to alert the oncoming traffic. They can even be mounted on the dash boards of the emergency vehicles and used only when needed. This versatility makes traffic advisor the first choice for many emergency vehicles, when it comes to choosing the emergency lighting.
