Winery Touring Tips Part 4
Wine is a wonderful way to compliment a dish of food, social functions or even a simple outing. If you are wine enthusiast or are just starting to get into wine, it is important that you get a chance to experience a wide variety of wineries to see what is out there. Before you and your friends get together for a winery tour, be sure to read up some of these great tips and suggestions on what to look forward to and expect while visiting the wineries.
1. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Never be shy about asking questions about the wine; the person behind the counter will usually really appreciate your interest. There really isn’t any such thing as stupid questions, so feel free to ask what types of food would go best with a particular wine or if it looks like it might be a good year for wine. The more you ask, the more you’ll become familiar with a wide variety of wines and your own personal taste.
2. Always be aware that you are in a tasting room and not a bar. If you are in the mood to drink a large glass of wine, consider purchasing a bottle of wine to enjoy at picnic on the property or at another ...
... social area of the winery. Even if you are not driving, be wary about the amount of wine you are drinking; people who have had too much to drink can ruin the tasting experience for others trying to enjoy their tasting.
3. Don’t feel pressured to buy too much. Buying a bottle or two of wine is always a great way to show your appreciation for a wine or winery, but never feel pressured to buy the wine or buy too much of it. It isn’t hard to get carried away while we are out and about at wineries, so be aware of how quickly those bottles can add up as you travel from winery to winery. Many wineries now have the ability to ship their wines across state lines, so it’s very likely that you can purchase the wines you are interested in once you have gotten home.
