Do you experience dramatic mood swings? Are these changes in your emotional state preceded and followed by severe feelings of elation or depression? Do you get these changes in your emotional state, for no reason whatsoever...they just occur? Do these mood changes affect how active you are? Do you notice yourself being really active one minute and completely out of it the next?

Did you answer yes to all the above questions? Then you could well be suffering from bipolar disorder.

The term bipolar disorder refers to a mental condition that is known to cause dramatic mood swings, often for no obvious reason. This, of course can be dangerous. As such dramatic shifts in your emotions can result in ruined relationships, missed chances, stunted emotional growth, and possibly in some cases actual physical harm. The condition known as teen bipolar disorder is rather more dangerous as it involves teenagers who are already undergoing some challenging times caused by changes in their hormones and societal changes.

Having to deal with teen bipolar disorder could be very difficult, but it is possible to conquer ...
... it. If you are a parent, a member of the family or a friend of a teenager who appears to be suffering from bipolar disorder, you need to learn three important things to help him or her iron out their emotional trials and tribulations. These things are:

1. Show Commitment. Teen bipolar disorder can be difficult to beat. The problem can be magnified by a teenager's rebellious streak. Having to deal with a teenager like this will test your patience, but you have to try to make him or her see the light and take the right path.

2. Have Patience. There will be occasions when the teenager will flat out refuse to listen to reason. However you should not give up. The main thing to do is to remain with him/her when he/she needs you the most. Even if he/she doesn't appreciate it.

3. Understanding. Some people state that bipolar disorder is impossible to understand. It is, when all said and done, a condition characterized by unreasonable behaviour. However, you must understand that the teenager is suffering from a disorder. It is very easy to say that he or she should have control over his or her behaviour during these episodes, but the truth is that he or she does not. Always bear this in mind when coping with a teenager who suffers from bipolar disorder.
