Days have passed on and waned into the pages of history. But history has an indignant way of letting out the word on its existence and that is by getting repeated. The manner in which sarkari naukri or government jobs have become popular in the present scenario, is an ample proof of history repeating itself. There was a time in the post independence era, when people were considered to have achieved everything in life, if they got through a government job.

There was access to good houses, ample pay packets, people to service, some also got vehicles, and there were good marriage proposals, even for people who were recruited at a young age. The lifestyle of people who got through such jobs was entirely changed for the better. Their families could live in peace and in good economic conditions. Lastly, the respect that was associated with those who got the government postings was immense, and a major driving force for people to prepare themselves for such jobs.

All these changed somehow in the later years, towards the end of the 20th century. With globalization and private organizations coming into india, the sarkari ...
... naukri was no longer the choice for careers. The private companies could pay well and assured jobs in thousands. The software companies made their presence felt in the country by contributing heavily to the economy as well as recruiting people in large numbers. But then, the government jobs came into the fore of the demand arena.

In recent years, the common man has taken up such jobs in variety of government agencies with enthusiasm and eagerness. The time for such jobs has improved, due to some factors. Since independence, the late part of 20th century, saw for the first time, the prospects of working in private organizations. This period was enough to understand the pros and cons of the company jobs, one prominent feature of which was the long hours of work. In the government sectors, the jobs had a time limit, beyond which people could enjoy their life. Also, a number of recruits and government posts that were created helped people to get the jobs easily.

The best factor perhaps was the raising of the pay scale according to the Sixth Pay Commission, which has literally drove millions of people, towards the charms of the sarkari naukri. The status has reached to such a position where people are choosing the government jobs as the first preference over the private jobs.

Since, private companies were able to create most of the jobs in the IT and IT enabled services sector, which was not very significant in the government sector, the private jobs are also there. It is only that the government is taking up more enterprises and thereby creating jobs for the Indian citizens with a better scale of pay, which is attracting the people. the scale is approximately matching those of the private companies. Also, the government jobs have a respect of their own, which many people find attractive in the long run for a career choice.
